What Would a SUPER SCHOOL look like?

An organization known as XQ Super School wants us all to RETHINK High School. Here are a few questions and a short vision of that future school we all might want to go to...
XQ ? #1> Imagine what a typical day might look like for students in your school.
XQ ? #2> How will you develop and deepen students’ engagement with and responsibility for their own learning?
XQ ? #3> How will your school connect young people with peers, teachers, and other adults?
XQ ? #4> How will they use technology to connect with the wider world around them?
Our students awake to their school text wake-up service of choice. Their electronic assortment of assignments and announcements are organized with an elegant app. They arrive at the Cognitive Cafe on campus and select their healthy smoothie and warm sandwich.
They reach their “Learners Choice” session just after the ambient music starts on the PA, no jarring bells of old. Subject Matter Experts (SME) from the community start their workday as guides in the multiple career and project-focused Choice sessions.
Jose heads for the Health & Wellness Wing after his Learner’s Choice surgical simulator session. He finds his integrated team of Language Arts and Science teachers are finalizing the setup for the UCLA Medical Center videoconferencing session with Residents regarding their lessons learned in their journey. He already checked his blog post on his expectations and planned questions for today. He had a few tips from his Integrated English teacher and his Science teacher suggested further inquiry and refinement of a question he posted.
The English teacher departs the Health Wing and strolls past the dirt and native plant exhibition of the Landscape Architecture class and drops in to see Jasmine in the Service & Industry Wing. Jasmine’s capstone project was both her Learners Choice project and a major part of her Integrated Design class. The entrepreneurship module of her class was 20% online with her nearby community college. Her required community service led her to the Rotary Club where she met her mentor who advised her on her capstone project. Her effort was a comprehensive website and promotional plan matching local volunteers with local events. Jasmine has to take care of her grandmother three times a week, so she has taken advantage of the evening classes her school now offers.
Student choice, relevant learning, community engagement and an empowered student body. Welcome to our Super School.

  1. A super school would have be a three story school with elevators inside of it, along with a food court for a launch room. This school would also include comfortable couches and tables to study at in designated areas around the school. A computer lab with apple computers, and a huge auditorium. The school would also be solar powered.

  2. You can develop and deepen students' engagement with their own learning by having students take classes based on what they want to do in their future. Many students will not know what they want to do of course, so before they choose they're classes they can take a short quiz or survey that is based on their preferences. Which ever class relates to that, they can pick those classes.

  9. I think a super school should have an extremely well funded AFJROTC program. Especially when regarding the Drill team; they should have new practice rifles, and competition rifles. As for uniforms the commander and NCO should receive service caps, the team should get black barrettes, and black and white gloves for practice and competition. The actual school should get professional chefs for their lunches, with a whole menu for the students to choose from. The art department should have state of the art equipment, and the school should be covered in murals, but all pertaining to the wings that they are in. And lastly the computersame and technology used should be state of the art and available to everyone. -Spencer Reed

  10. I honestly believe this is brilliant. Not only does the breakfast provided takes away some student problems of not eating a healthy breakfast, Maybe possibly, in every first period, there would be someone or just food stocked up for breakfast that kids could get before class starts. The choices would be healthy breakfast foods. the students have a well organized app that allows them to use their electronics in a more fashionable manner that is positive. Instead of just texting and roaming around the web, their phone holds their whole schedule making it easier to access. It also helps the conflict that teachers and students have with electronic usage. Well they can take the super school ideas and put assignments in just one collective app. In Google classroom, some people can't even access it because their phone can't handle it. In an app, it'll be accessible on android and iPhone

Being able to change certain aspects of our school would be great and make it a better Learning environment.

  11. My idea of a better school would probably be a school in which students can choose what subjects they want to learn, study and get better at. Many students come to school looking to learn and a lot of them tend to learn more when it's with a subject that they're interested in. For example if a student wants to become a mechanic, then they are more focused and interested in their engineering class, not biology class. We need to remind students what it is to learn. Nowadays, for students, school isn't about learning. It's about passing.

  12. If I went to a super school I'd want my school day to be based around my interests. For example if I was was interested in graphic design I would be more prompt to coming to school because my whole school day was based around my interests.

  13. I believe that the ideal school allows students to come and go as they please for many kids want to learn but the main problem is we are forced to learn instead of by our own choosing say a student beileves they no longer need to learn a certian subject any more and so they can decide to not go to the class with no consequences whatsoever and instead go to a class of which they show some interest in. Another thing I beileve should be changed is the school lunches instead of having a preditermined lunch given every day we should have a system of which students can order a meal that fits all the health needs of the students as well as making it to where the student does not have food given to them that half of which will be thrown away. One more idea from me is to allow students to sell items at school for this actually helps many students who don't/can't get a job allowing for progressive buisness skill that can help them later on in life.

  14. I would like to see better learning conditions for the students and places where students want to go and lean. Another thing I would like to see would be me career learning class that will help students know what they would like to do after high school. A Cool things to see at my high school would be to see good that non meat eaters can eat. Then I think that all groups on campus should be funded not just a couple.

  20. A super schoo I would enjoy going to instead of dreading getting out of bed would be something like in the reading. A school where kids could come and be interested in learning the subjects they are taking. A school that would include a healthy breakfast and lunch. A school that would be hands on with classes and hoping to get kids prepared for the future even when that involves technology. Having kids hands on in classes would show them what their future could look like when they are done with high school.

  23. If I went to a super school I would like there to be block schedule our classes be what we want to be when we are older and not be book but have research projects. I also think we should have vending machines so if we are hungry we can grab a quick snack on the way to class and in it can be like candy bars or chips. If I can have a super school that would be my super school

  24. A school that enhances education and makes students want to learn also something that prepares us for careers and future jobs.

  25. If I went to a super school I would want it based on my future career but also I would want it based on my favorite hobbies. It would include a 2 story building with stairs, and include a Starbucks.I would like to have simulators to teach me how to fly planes also

  26. My super school would have lockers to store our books, sparing us from lugging books around. It would have a better teacher student ratio to help students feel more involved and attain a better education. It would be nice if our fields for sports were improved to give us a better experience and encourage students to get good grades in order to play. Better technology can help students get a broader education and take classes they're interested in. For example if a student wants to take a certain language class, they can take it online with a teacher across the world and have a supervisor to make sure he or she is learning. This would greatly motivate students to learn and go to school. A three story building would be nice too.

  29. My super school would be able to provide me the adequate learning I need in order to get into the field of art. It would also have areas that have peace and quiet while providing full meals for everyone at a low price instead of having to pay several dollars for a small meal that wouldn't feed a child. Another input would include having online classes within the classroom, just in case some students need to have it right in front of them as they work, bending to help all students regardless of what way they need to work.

  30. My idea of a super school would be cleaner and more comfortable classroom. Classrooms that are out in the open. The school would have to have a driving course for people to learn and for the people who will go into a driving career. I would just like more hands on everything.

Students would be more eager to come to school because their classes are based on their interests. That allows students to be in a friendly environment. My super school would also have the latest technology. Having the latest technology would allow students to learn better and communicate with other classmates.

  34. I would want a super school to look like. It will have hover broads for transportation. Having Robots teach us how to program computer's as well as having updated books to learn from. These books will have a virtual system so everything can become more interactive and a better experience for the students. This is my idea of a super school.

  36. My idea of a super school would be a school that is bigger than the one we have. We could get better equipment for the classes and also for the students. The school could be more of a hands on school and more electives to learn so kids would actually be interested in school.

  38. If FairField high won the $10,000,000, then the students would see a difference in their work environment and would try harder in schools. The students would be proud to say that are from FairField and would participate more in after school activities like sports or clubs. If we won this 10,000,000, we would be happy to be learning in an amazing environment.

  39. The ideal superschool for me would to have a bigger campus for more subjects that would provide more people to have a better future career. Also we should have better food choices and maybe even have food carts. More extracurricular activities. And a relax room where you can go to if you're having a bad day. Along with vending machines around campus. And along how we give chrome books to freshman we give it to everyone so they have no excuse to fail.

  40. I want my super cool school to have couches, and laptops mounted to the desks and a giant food court full of things students actually want to eat, this school is for people who want to do something with their life and not sit at home doing nothing.

  42. I think our super school would have couch chairs and food that doesn't just look better but also tastes, so it will encourage all of the students to eat so they get their energy level up. The topics that the teachers would talk about would be a lot more interesting to talk about in class. The classrooms would have brighter paint so it didn't look like we were in prison with the wall that have no color. The school would not get wider when we needed to expand it would get taller. The pool would be heated and the the PE lockers would be bigger so it can fit all of the stuff u needed to put in them, and everyone would get their own locker no matter what grade they were in outside of the PE rooms. We would be able to draw on our lockers to express ourselves better and we would have more counselors to help students more often than they do now

  43. I would want my super school to be like a college campus to prepare me for my future career. The classes would be revolved around what my future career is (ex: If I wanted to be an engineer then I would take engineering based classes). There would be a lounge/cafe where students could relax and work on their projects while having a cup of coffee or tea with muffins and bagels as an option too. There will also be new, filtered water fountains in every wing so that students can hydrate throughout the day. The cafeteria will provide a variety of sandwiches that you can create yourself at lunch. In my super school students will be waiting to come to school the next morning to explore the new opportunities that await them.

  44. My idea of a super school is hover board for transportation and body activated chairs and tablets for books

  45. My super school would have a sufficient amount of high quality lockers for students who dislike bringing heavy items for school. Also it would have a spacious library with comfortable couches and the latest computers. This will allow students to complete assignments while they are relaxed. In addition students will have a large variety of electives that will prepare them for careers that interest them.

  46. A super school for the modern teen would be a school that's more hands on. For example doing actual labs in the classroom. We have a lot of funds so that the students have the chances to come up with their projects and labs that they want. Also for the school to have more chances for the students to do what they believe their future job to be while they are in the classroom environment. So that when they apply for a job they have experience that they can put on their resume. Also for us to have better WiFi and the newest technology for the students.

  47. A day in the Super School would involve relevant preparation for every student's individual future, Their classes would be interesting and captivating to convey the students important knowledge and relevant information. This will help them in their life by showing them how to get themselves ready for the future by using the tools around them

  48. my super school would have lockers so the students don't have to carry everything. The school wont have science for people that don't want it.

  49. My version of a super school would be to have everything in the world from all different states.

    ReplyDelete
  50. My ideal super school would have electives based on our career goals.
